AN ISLAND FAR FAR AWAY
Maldives…I would like to call it the land of vibrant colours. The turquoise waters, the sparkling white sand and the bright green leaves: hues to paint the dreamiest backdrop for your holiday pictures. The water around was so blue that I didn’t know where the sea ended and the sky began.
I had the fortune of spending a couple of days in Dhonakulhi island, one of the 43 islands that form Haa Alif Atoll, which is one of the 26 atolls that comprise Maldives. Most of the resorts in Maldives are one-island-one-resort kind. I stayed at Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa, truly a home away from home.
It all started with a 40 minute flight from Male International Airport (Velana International Airport) to this island called Hanimaadhoo. The view during the flight was spectacular: scores of islands dotting the water below. I kept looking out the window clicking pictures, hoping to get at least one that could do justice to its beauty. The guests were escorted to a speedboat upon arrival at the airport. As we bobbed our way towards the resort, I kept wondering how much more beautiful the island would be compared to the pictures I had seen online. After about 20 minutes, I could see the water villas looming in the front. It looked promising, and I knew then that I would have a perfect holiday.
Some pictures of the resort and the facilities within…
What I saw under water
I packed light for the trip (compared to the other trips 😛 ). A couple of swimwear (you can’t help jumping into the water, trust me) and a few summery clothes. I picked off-shoulder and backless tops/dresses. Airy, and perfect for the tropical backdrop. Carry a very colourful kimono or a sexy maxi dress for beautiful pictures (you can thank me later!). I didn’t carry heavy accessories as the temperature was pretty high during day time.
Here is a look at what I wore…
About the look : I wanted an all-white outfit with a burst of pleasant colours. I chose an off-shoulder floral print top in yellow and white, a pair of white shorts and a pair of white sandals. An easy-breezy look. The top is from a local shop in Bangkok, the shorts and sandals from Forever21 and the tote from Vincci.
About the look : I planned my outfits using these white sandals and this tote. The second outfit was chosen for a day out in the waters, fishing. Yes, I caught 6 fishes 😉 I chose another off-shoulder top in green and white stripes, and a pair of black culottes. You could pair the same top with a beautiful skirt if you don’t intend to jump around catching fishes 🙂 The top is from a local shop in Bangkok, and culottes from Stradivarius.
About the look : For the third look I chose an off-shoulder dress from H&M. It’s clinched at the waist and is a super fun outfit. I paired it with a black leather choker, and the same pair of sandals and the same tote.
About the look : For the final look I chose a backless maxi dress. I picked this one from Forever21. An idea would be to pick something similar in white, yellow, lime green or red, just imagine how it will look against this backdrop!
Do carry ample amount of body lotion and sunscreen; I got tanned despite that.
Hope you enjoyed reading the post. Kindly let me know if you need any further information for planning a trip to Maldives. We are just a message away 🙂
